Perlite is a white, lightweight granular material used in both ant-keeping equipment and spider enclosures to help retain moisture and regulate humidity.

Our perlite undergoes a meticulous preparation process to ensure top quality and reliable performance for the specific needs of ant and spider-keeping setups. This reduces the risk of bacteria, mold, or harmful dust in enclosed environments.

Main Uses:

  • Ant-Keeping: Perlite is placed in test tubes with refillable water chambers and formicarium reservoirs to regulate humidity, extend or buffer water release, and keep cotton securely in place.
  • Spider Enclosures: Used in substrate trays for arboreal enclosures to release moisture upward and drive passive airflow. Also effective as a humidity-retaining layer or additive in terrestrial setups

Product Details:

  • Measurement: Due to its lightweight nature, Perlite is measured by volume. Each pouch is filled using a 16x150 mm test tube, providing approximately 23mL of fine, specialized perlite granules.

How its processed:

  • Grinding and Sifting: We grind coarse Perlite granules and sift them to achieve the perfect grain size, ensuring they are small enough for effective use but large enough to avoid being inhaled by spiders, which can be harmful to their book lungs.
  • Dust Removal: Fine dust is thoroughly removed to protect the delicate respiratory systems of spiders and other small creatures.
  • Rinsing and Sterilizing: The granules are rinsed with distilled water and oven-baked to eliminate any bacteria and spores, ensuring a clean and safe product for your pets. This is especially important in test tube and formicaria water chambers, where using sterile materials alongside distilled water helps minimize the risk of introducing new contaminants.

Applications:

  • Water Reservoirs in Ant-Keeping: Adding Perlite to formicarium water reservoirs extends water release, maintaining consistent humidity.
  • Test Tubes: In test tubes, Perlite helps secure the cotton, preventing ants from dislodging it.
  • Spider Substrate Trays: Perlite placed in the bottom of spider substrate trays helps retain moisture and gradually releases it, creating a humid environment suitable for spider species.
  • Formicarium Chambers: Distributing Perlite in formicarium chambers aids in maintaining humidity and absorbing extra condensation.
  • Outworld Substrate: Perlite serves as a clean, white substrate in outworlds, enhancing the visibility of ants, absorbing spills, and being easy to clean.

Why Choose Our Perlite: Our Perlite is specifically prepared for use in ant-keeping and spider enclosures, ensuring it is free from harmful dust and impurities. The careful processing ensures that it meets the high standards required for the health and safety of your pets. While bulk Perlite may be cheaper, our product's quality and convenience make it the best choice for dedicated hobbyists who want the best for their ants and spiders.

What is Perlite? Perlite is a form of amorphous volcanic glass known for its porous nature, which allows it to store moisture effectively. It is non-toxic, clean, disease-free, and extremely lightweight.

Perlite retains water through:

  • Spaces between grains.
  • Channels leading to the grain cores.
  • Irregular surfaces of each particle, which can soak up a significant amount of water.

These properties make Perlite an excellent choice for maintaining a stable and healthy environment in both ant and spider habitats.
